![]() ![]() Part of it is that people's perfect Disney World is the WDW of their first visit, or the WDW of their child's birthday, or the WDW of that summer road trip from college, or whatever WDW they had however long ago that was a magical trip. I'd call it nostalgia but it runs a little more toxic than that because it usually leads to active, vocal disdain for the current. ![]() The old version of a ride is always better, the old version of a show is always better, the menu the restaurant used to have is always better, the parade they used to run is always better, etc. There's a strong "what we used to have is always better than what we have now" sentiment in the Disney Parks fandom. I am probably in the minority, but I love the Disney shows and attractions that are more original, and not just a chance to "ride the movies". (I know, some Disney songs from movies are timeless). I understand the desire to hear and sing to songs you know, but they can become dated based on the general popularity of the movie. Illuminations' story was timeless, and I think that is why it ran for so long. With Harmonious, it felt like just skipping through a Disney playlist. The story was easy to follow, the tempo varied with the story, and then the crescendo of the last scene. Illuminations started before the show even began as the music changed to build anticipation. I think people miss Illuminations because, in addition to music, fireworks, and lights, there was the deeper story being told. It felt like just a collection of songs being sung in multiple languages. I enjoyed the concept, world harmony with people singing in their native languages, but otherwise, for me, it lacked cohesion.
